Briercliffe 10 16/07/2013 - Evening Series Round 11 - Report

With temperatures creeping up to 30 degrees Centigrafe at the start, Round 11 of the Briercliffe 10 series was as much of a war of attrition as it was a battle against the clock. Still, this didn't deter the riders with all but three* competitors recording either a season or personal best for the course.

*One rider's diminished performance was very much self inflicted (see below).

The fastest Nomad tonight was Andrew Herbert who rode his fastest ever time around the course with a 23:22, which is the fastest time recorded by a Nomad this year.

Andrew Herbert - fastest performance on this course.

Andy Saunders came in second with his fastest time of the season and Simon Doyle rolled in third.

Ryan Witchell improved once again to record the fastest time of the evening and dipped under the 23 minute mark for the first time. A truly stunning performance.

Nick Hickman is once again fine tuning his training for the Brompton World Championships and rode the event on his folding bicycle. Nick's time of 31:54 includes unfolding the bike (16 seconds) but was a few seconds short of his best Brompton time from last year of 31:00 (including folding time).

Nick Hickman prior to being harangued at the 7 mile mark by the Club Captain.

Thanks this week goes out to Nigel Wilson and Richard Bland for timekeeping/ pushing off and also to the many who came out to support.

Thanks to Sue Clifford-Smith for the images.

The long forgotten sensation that is "summer" returned for Round 9 of the 2013 Briercliffe 10 series, which witnessed overcast but warm and still conditions. It promised to be a good evening for racing and 18 riders came out to try their luck against the clock.

Ryan Witchell continued to impress and clocked the fastest time of the evening with a 23:31, which is his best around the challenging Briercliffe 10 course.

Interclub 30 - Results and Report 26 May 2013

The sun-kissed Bedforshire roads saw four of the area's leading time trialling squads battle it out on a demanding, three circuit loop of Southill and Old Warden. The second of the 2013 Interclub series saw Simon Norman (Bedfordshire Road CC) edge Nigel Hale (CC Ashwell) in to second place by 18 seconds. CC Ashwell dominated the top five places with Cameron Woolsey and Jason Stuart both going sub 1:10 for the distance. Beds Road CC controlled the places from 10 down to 30, showing strength in depth and proving that time trialling really has a great pool of riders in and around the Cardington based club's HQ.

Hitchin Nomads CC managed to place five riders in point scoring positions with Club Captain, Simon Doyle, posting 1:13:24 for seventh spot. Neil Bridgland, Steve Austin and Warren Richards all made their time trial debuts.

Icknield RC placed five riders in scoring positions with Oliver Cocks being first IRC rider past the timekeeper.

DAVID GUDGIN 25 & MEDIUM GEAR UPDATE

Due to roadworks with traffic lights on the B658 between Shefford and the Broom crossroads we are unable to use the 1U/25 course as planned. Instead we will use the 26 mile course around Old Warden that was used for the 2-Up TT earlier this year. The course is as follows:

START on west side of unclassified road (Old Warden-Southill) at GR 151428 and proceed northwards to T-junction at Old Warden.
TURN LEFT to Cardington junctions where LEFT and continue under disused railway bridge and through Ireland where LEFT uphill and LEFT to triangle.
BEAR LEFT over humpback bridge and continue to junction where LEFT through Southill village to Broom cross roads.
TURN LEFT onto B658 and go North to G&M Growers where LEFT to Old Warden through village
Continue through village, past Southill-Old Warden and Cardington junctions to disused railway bridge where left uphill and left at junction to triangle where left over hump back bridge.  Continue and take first left through Southill village to Broom cross roads where left onto B658.  Repeat circuit once more via Broom cross roads and continue to GM Growers and through Old Warden to Southill-Old Warden junction
LEFT into starting road to FINISH on east side of road at GR 146432

So Start on the 10 start, do three laps of the outer 10 course loop and finish at the 25 finish after the third time up Shuttleworth Hill and through Old Warden.

The roadworks are scheduled to be there for the next 6-8 weeks, so it is likely that all 4 of the David Gudgin's will take place on this course.

As far as the handicapped competitions go, we will be able to work out a 25 time based on the 26 course to compare to the standards etc by calculating the average time per mile and then subtracting that time from the total 26 time.

The club "10"
1U/10 Briercliffe 10 is a single clock-wise circuit based around the club's 25/ Southill course.
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/59918908

Spring Hilly/ Autumn Hilly (6Z/10)
This is an 18 mile route covering 2 laps of a 9 mile course around Whitwell and St. Paul’s Walden. It’s a good marker for form at the start of the season and also constitutes the first race of the club’s All Rounder Competition. It is also used in the Autumn.
Route map: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/68568598

2-Up Team TT
This is held over the club’s 25 mile course (see above). Riding as a team of 2, you will be given the time of the second rider in your team to cross the finish line so you need to work together to get a good time. This event also counts towards the club’s All Rounder Competition.
Route map: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/68571260

Medium Gear (72 inch TT)
Again held over the club’s 25 mile course, the limitation is that your bike cannot have a gear ratio higher than 72 inches. Many thanks to Frank Turner for the technical explanation:
