N&DCA F15/10 10 mile time trial results - 21 September 2013

The Nomads time trial squad were out once again for the final F15/10 of the season, this time promoted by Northants & District CA.

Fielding the same four riders who competed on the F15/10 on the 31st August, it was Simon Doyle who went out first, followed by James Gomm, Michael Webb and finally Nick Hickman. Conditions were tough with a strong South Westerly wind which meant the riders were pushed on the way out, but faced a direct headwind for the return leg. Simon Doyle edged out James Gomm by the narrowest possible margin to be the first Nomad home. Given the tough conditions, all four riders were slower than their previous outing on the course. The overall winning time was almost a full minute slower than the 31st August which, in context, shows a good performance by all four riders.

The quartet will be in action again on 5th October for N&DCA event on the F5/20.

Results (10 miles)
S Doyle 23.30, J Gomm 23.31, N Hickman 24.07, M Webb 25.20

Autumn Series Round 4 - Report 15 Sept 2013

The final event in the 2013 Autumn Series saw seven hardy souls compete on the testing Whitwell based circuit. A brisk north-westerly wind made for some interesting battles as riders attempted to improve on previous weeks' times. The ride of the day went to Tom Bishop with a sub-23 minute ride. Gavin Ashfield was fastesrt Nomad again.

Time Keeping and pushing off was performed by Frank Turner and Rapha Riley. Simon Doyle marshalled the junction and then provide frippery and insults apres-TT, mostly at the expense of Mike Webb. Webb managed to tear himself away from e-Bay for the duration of a very robust ride. George Osborne has been using Webb to see if cyclists can help spend Britain out of recession. Trading in Specialized shares is expected to be brisk when the markets open on Monday.

Post-ride analysis which included an  "Audience with Frank Turner" at Emily's Tea Room, included discourse on the workings of fire engines, how dynamite can be used for fishing and various theories on why the wasps near tea shops never die, even when the weather becomes inclement.

The Nomads - informative, educartional and entertaining. We should be getting some of the BBC's licence fee....

Autumn Series Round 3 - Report 8th Sept 2013

The inaugural Nomads' Autumn Series goes from strength to strength, with the Briercliffe course forming the basis for Round 3 of the 4 event series. Unlike Round 1, the weather was dry and clear and the fresh morning breeze blew away the cobwebs as riders from several local clubs pitted their ability against the clock.

Andy Saunders PB'ed for the course with an impressive "short 24" and was unlucky not to pip Gavin Ashfield to top spot for the Nomads. Ashfield produced another great ride to take first place in the Nomads competition. Jason Stuart continued to show great form around the Briercliffe course to record another sub-24 minute time. Simon Doyle edged out James Gomm following their ride on the F15/10 course the preceding day.

The final event in the series takes place next Sunday (15th) on the Whitwell circuit, first rider off at 0901h.

Autumn Series Round 2 - Whitwell 9.2 - 01/09/2013

Round 2 of the Autumn series saw significantly improved conditions form last week's "wash out", and as such competitor numbers were greatly increased.

The event was hosted on the tough Whitwell circuit (6Z/10), which although is a shorter distance than the usual 10 miler (at 9.2 miles) it does include 732ft of climbing and rarely has a piece of flat road.

Profile of the Whitwell Course (6Z/10)

The fastest rider of the day was Gavin Ashfield with a superb time of 23:13. Simon Doyle was the second quickest rider with a time of 23:42 and James Gomm rounded off the top three with a 24:16.

There was a good battle in the middle of the order with Mark Collins, Nick Senechal and Michael Webb all separated by just 15 seconds with Mark coming out on top.

Thanks goes to Steve Smith and Frank Turner for timekeeping duty and also to Nigel Wilson and James Spence who came out the cheer the riders on and support the event.
