Hitchin Nomads CC -
Social Media Policy
The club takes every step it can to be open and transparent in terms of how it communicates with its members and other interested parties. We have managed to generate lots of positive communication and messages through the electronic media to an extent that many of the club now turn to our excellent blog and Facebook pages as a first resort when planning their weekend rides and races.
The growth and popularity of
social media sites, mobile technology and mass
communication is of great benefit in helping members connect with one
another and also promoting club activities. We have been really
fortunate that the club has blossomed because of the
use of social media and even more fortunate that the banter and
interactions is generally entertaining, informative and shows us to be a
sociable bunch.
The following points are an overview of how the
club wishes to embrace these communication channels. It is easy to
forget just how instantaneous these communication channels are,
so as to keep us all on the straight and narrow here are some pointers
that should help explain what’s what. Common sense should prevail in all
instances.
Members’ email distribution list - for paid up club members only and will be used to send out the monthly Nomads News, the monthly events calendar and any ad hoc notices relevant to the running of the club and associated activities. Membership of this community will be managed by one or more club officials. Members will have the option to opt out of any of the distribution lists.
Club Facebook page - to be used for the notification of events or activities directly associated with the club, e.g. arranging rides, passing on information and promoting the club to interested non-members. Membership of this community will be managed by one or more club officials. The Facebook page is intended to promote and convey information that is relevant to the club. Any posts of a purely commercial nature or that are deemed to be offensive or bringing the club or its activities into disrepute may be removed at the discretion of club officials without prior notice. Any breach of etiquette or persistent misuse may result in censure or revocation of membership of the group, or club,
Website - to be used for the notification of events or activities directly associated with the club, e.g. arranging rides, passing on information, results and promoting the club. Club officials will be responsible for the authoring of content. The site will be open to all viewers via the World Wide Web.
In all situations we would encourage that these media are not used employed for personal gain, commercial or vested interest. Where reasonable we may expect notices to appear promoting allied local services or "second hand" bike or kit sales which relate to the club's members and local supporters.
All of these media and capabilities have the ability to broadcast opinions and commentary instantaneously - as such we would encourage any contributors to refrain from posting any material which may bring the club or its members and activities in to disrepute.
